Applying to Cars Before Bars
Who should apply?
Students who are interested in cars, trades, design, fabrication, paint, electronics, detailing, or custom builds should apply. Prior shop experience helps, but it is not required.
How do I apply?
Use the application page and answer the questions as clearly as possible. The team reviews applications and follows up with next steps when a student may be a fit.
What are students expected to bring?
Students are expected to bring consistency, respect, a willingness to listen, and the ability to follow safety instructions. The program is hands-on, so showing up ready to work matters.

Is Cars Before Bars a nonprofit organization?
Yes. Cars Before Bars is positioned as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting automotive education, mentorship, and career pathways.
How much does the program cost?
Costs, scholarships, sponsorship support, and available seats are reviewed with selected applicants and families during the admissions process.
Is this a real shop environment?
Yes. Students train around real tools and custom automotive work. Safety, supervision, respect for the workspace, and professional shop habits are part of the program.

What skills are included?
The program introduces students to body and paint prep, fabrication, wiring, audio, lighting, wheels, tires, hydraulics, detailing, shop safety, and project discipline.
Where do students train?
Students train through the Cars Before Bars workshop partnership with Lowlife Hydraulics in Inglewood, where the classroom is connected to custom automotive work.
Does the program guarantee a job?
No job is guaranteed. The goal is to help students build skills, confidence, accountability, and connections that can support future trade and career opportunities.

Yes. Partners can support students with tools, materials, guest instruction, shop visits, internships, interviews, mentorship, and career pathway conversations.
